Welcome to my first blog ever. My name is Cory and I’m an Electrical Engineer in Southern California. This blog was created as a personal challenge in dedication to my uncle, so let’s start off with the point. My uncle, Dan Keitz, has been fighting Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS, or Lou Gehrig’s Disease) for a while now and I have really been exercising my brain trying to figure out something I could do to help him along in this difficult battle. So here is the best idea I could muster together – a photo blog. This blog will be a vessel for observation on everyday life. Eventually my hope is to turn this into a photo book plus. The goal will be to sell the book and donate any profits to ALS research and charity groups. The “plus” means that each photo will have commentary on perspective and interpretation. The photo will provide a theme of sorts for the commentary and, if any readers are so inclined, a discussion. Who knows, maybe we’ll even get “deep.” That’d be something.
My rules:
- A focal length of 10mm ONLY. My new wide angle lens will not leave my camera body.
- One photo per day, whether or not I think I have something worthwhile.
- Some kind of commentary on the photo
Dan, you have been an inspiration to me with your passion for art and spirituality. You have done nothing but encourage my pursuits in music and photography. Thank you, and this is for you. I hope with all my heart that this blog, the photos and the commentary, will bring you joy.
With that, let’s get started with the first photo entry:
Playing Tigers (click to enlarge)

“Let’s play tigers,” is something Dan said to me countless times throughout my youth. Actually, even into my adulthood. My reaction to the proposal has changed throughout the years. When I was young I was just too embarrassed to get down on my hands and knees and make roaring noises while clawing. I also ran from cameras. In general I think I just didn’t like attention. As I grew it became a sort of inside joke, and I kind of just laughed at it. So Dan, here you go. I finally sat down to play tigers, and this is the result. I have to say that I enjoyed it.
